What about the Keto Bars?

Hello Cherky Lovers,

Today we want to tell you why we have been out of stock of Keto Bars for several weeks.

It has been quite a hard decision because it has been more than two years of development and a lot of resources and illusion put into launching our first sweet product.

There are two reasons why we have decided to pause the production of this great product for a while:

  1. The skyrocketing price of cocoa.
  2. The summer.

The price of cocoa and its derivatives:

You may well have read about it or seen it in the news or simply noticed it when you went to buy your favourite chocolate.

During 2024 the price of cocoa has reached 6 times the price of 2023, a x6!


The Impact of climate on cocoa:

According to the International Cocoa Organisation (ICCO), cocoa production has been below record levels in 2020/21 for the past three years. In Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana, production suffered heavy losses due to excessive rains and black pod disease, caused by a fungus. ICCO estimates that in 2023/24, production in Côte d'Ivoire is 20% lower than in 2022/23, and Ghana's production is down by 11%.

Up to February 2024, cocoa bean exports from Côte d'Ivoire have fallen by more than 25% compared to the same period in 2022/23. Although Ghana's data are not yet available, estimates suggest a similar decline in exports.

The current increase in cocoa prices, caused by supply shortages in West African countries, is expected to continue for much of 2024. A decline may be noted in the last quarter of 2024 due to the new crop, but this will depend on damage to production infrastructure in origin countries; as crop losses due to weather and disease have multiplied and may have affected cocoa trees.

Summer:

As we mentioned before, the Keto Bars have a high cocoa butter content. That's why they have such a special texture.

In the case of the Chocolate, Peanut and Sea Salt bar, between cocoa butter and chocolate, the content exceeds 40%.

Bearing in mind that the melting temperature of the cocoa butter is between 30-35ºC and that we manufacture them in Spain, it is quite possible that the texture of the bars may be affected during transport.

It is not a problem that affects the food safety of the product, far from it, but we understand that it is better not to risk having a bad experience.

However, if you forget one of our bars in your car, beach bag or backpack this summer and you notice that they are softer than usual, if you leave the bar in the fridge for 15-20 minutes it will return to its usual texture.
